Ronald Wilk, a distinguished alumnus, made a significant impact on our lab’s legacy. Arriving from South Africa in the mid-’70s for his graduate studies, Ronald completed his M.Sc. project under the guidance of Prof. Malah, the founder of the lab. After graduating in 1976, he returned to South Africa and co-founded a successful software engineering company, eventually leading to a prosperous sale by the end of the last century. In 2000, on the lab’s 25th-anniversary, Roland made a generous donation, which enabled to significantly upgrade the lab’s infrastructure. In 2003, Ronald and his family relocated to Toronto, Canada, where he and his wife Marion are playing chamber music and are an integral part of the Toronto classical music scene.

We are deeply grateful for Ronald’s ongoing support and contributions to our lab’s success.

Benny Saban, an amateur musician turned professional sound engineer, later excelled as a gifted product manager. He played a key role in connecting technological advancements with market needs in communications and e-commerce, leading successful initiatives. In 2016, Benny assumed leadership of a startup, bringing forth numerous collaborative projects at SIPL. Throughout this period, he consistently shared his expertise and provided invaluable support to the laboratory, guiding and supervising students.

Beyond his tech and management skills, Benny was a broad-minded and curious individual. He left behind a legacy of innovation and knowledge-sharing.

Thomas Schwartz, a remarkable graduate of the faculty, stood out as a master student. Did his master degree from 1976 to 1977 under the guidance of Prof. Malah, the founder of the lab. Following the completion of his master’s degree, Thomas embarked on a successful career at Elscint-Elgam, where his contributions were highly commendable.

Unfortunately, his promising future was cut short by a tragic accident. Despite this unfortunate turn of events, Thomas’s impact and potential were undeniable, and his legacy continues to be remembered as a testament to his exceptional academic and professional achievements.
